Fan Mail Q&A with Dwayne Roby
Gilbert Yvel has proven out of line again and again, and he pushes it again with the unnecessary hits of Pedro Rizzo. Why don't people realize the guy is a complete joke? - Matt Wimmer; Springfield IL
When Gilbert Yvel knocked out a referee, he showed that the adrenaline and emotions that go through your head during a fight have the ability to take control. However, to call the guy a "complete joke" is beyond inappropriate. Outside of his past mishaps, which cannot define a person (although they tend to), Gilbert Yvel is very friendly as well as analytical. The extra hits to the head of Pedro Rizzo was a result of the referee, and not Yvel. A fighter is trained to continue punching until broken up by the referee, which was displayed by Yvel in perfect fashion.
What's next for Chuck Liddell. Will he fight again, or will he end his mixed martial arts career with two back to back KOs? - Carl Brooks; Daytona FL
According to Dana White, in a recent interview with ESPN, he has spoken to Chuck Liddell who promised him he will be retiring.
This is Chuck Liddell's best option, because in essence, they all ran out. If, and this is hypothetically, he were to leave the UFC with one final Howrah, who would be at the other end of the cage? Any top tier competition would be a likely loss. He could fight a fighter such as Brian Stann, Mark Coleman, or Jake O'Brien. But really, does anyone need to watch this? It's most definitely time for Chuck to hang the gloves up. It's a sad realization, but not unexpected.
Do you think Andrei Arlovski or Tim Sylvia will be ranked in the top ten by this time next year? - Glenn Peplinski; Houston TX
Coming in at over 300 lbs., It was obvious that Sylvia was not even attempting to show he was even slightly preparing for the fight with Ray Mercer. Any fighter that gets so brutally kncoked out by a 48 year old that lost to Kimbo Slice (former amazing boxer or not) does not deserve to be discussed as a top ten fighter, even if it's a year from now. Also, there is no sign of Sylvia getting any major competition any time soon, or ever really.
Andrei Arlvoski is yet another fighter that has fallen victim to the Fedor complex. I think Fedor was his last stand, and now he's psychologically damaged goods, and is once again betrayed by his seemingly glass chin. How long Arlovski can hang with the elite of the division is open for debate.
Which UFC 100 event are you most looking forward to? - Angela Newbarb; Durham NC
Personally, while all the main card events will be exiting, I most look forward to watching Jon Jones take on Jake O'Brien. Jon Jones is one of the most exciting prospects in the UFC right now, as his fan base is spreading like wildfire. I remember watching the first round of his Stephan Bonnar fight over and over for a whole week after the fight aired. If he can prove consistency, I believe he will fair very well in the UFC.
