1. Georges St. Pierre
With the domination of my former pound for pound champion, BJ Penn, Georges St. Pierre has proved to own the most convincing wins of any other pound for pound competitor. Let us hope Georges holds to the status of dominating victories against great competitors such as his controlling win over Penn, convincing decision over Jon Fitch, and complete obliteration of former title holder Matt Serra.
2. Anderson Silva
"The Spider" has proven one of the most superior champions of the UFC. However, his former performance against Patrick Cote fell short of impressive. I hope Silva will provide us with more assertive victories in the bouts to come.
3. Fedor Emelianenko
With the 36 second destruction of Tim Sylvia, many people extended Fedor the honor of the p4p champion. Having not faced major competition in his recent bouts, I refrained from showing "The Last Emperor" such a crown until his next performance. In the second Affliction event, Fedor stopped contender Andrei Arlovski in the first round, but "The Pitbull" showed superior boxing for a whole three minutes until when... you know, how superior can one's boxing be with a first round knockout?
4. B.J. Penn
Although we watched "The Prodigy" suffer a wholesome domination Saturday night, his defeat fell outside of his weight class. Although the definition of pound for pound varies from one MMA nut to the next, I always felt it was the champion most dominant in his weight class, and no one can deny BJ his lightweight crown.
5. Miguel Torres
Miguel Torres has brought attention to the bantamweight division in his controlling victory over the formerly undefeated Manny Tapia. Miguel looks to further his legacy with his upcoming title defense against Brian Bowels.
